A dental implant is an artificial dental root formed by a material biocompatible and implanted in the maxillary or mandibular bone to replace a lost tooth. Nowadays the implants have cylindrical or conic form ,with several length and diameter according to the quantity of available bone to the site of insertion.
The plants are built in pure titanium, a metal totally biocompatible so that the bone comes into direct contact with the metallic surface without any intermediary connective layer.The titanium fusion with the receiving bone is denominated osseointagration. Another advantage of the titanium is that brings no allergic reactions, or reject or tissue inflammations.There are many implant producers, but only few systems are documented by scientific studies and maintenance of the result in the long term.
At the Centre for Aesthetic Dentistry we use the Swedish Nobel Biocare™ implant system that is considered the best worldwide. With the implant system it's possible to replace a single tooth or a whole dental arcade or it's possible to fix a total prosthesis that stirs during the chewing.
