Every tooth to its inside is characterized by the presence of vases and nerves which in their complex form the dental pulp; it’s just the dental pulp which makes us perceive the thermal stimuli and, unfortunately, also those painful.

When an inflammation demages the dental pulp causing the pulpitis (the classical and very feared ache of teeth), this after having hurt for such a period of time, it goes to necrosis. In the most part of the cases the pulp inflammation is produced from traumas or from particularly deep and aggressive caries which can graze or reach the pulp chamber of the tooth and the same inflammation can be extended also outside the apex of the dental root and spread to the surrounding alveolar bone, provoking lesions defined as abscess or a granuloma. Unfortunately this inflammation is not reversible and cannot be treated with anti-inflammatory medicines, therefore it deems necessary to remove the dental pulp. The Endodontics is the branch of the dentistry that has to do with the treatment of the inside space of the tooth, in order to defeat tha pain and, at the same time, to guarantee the permanence of the dental element in the patient mouth.
A correct endodontic therapy must foresee the complete removal of the present dental pulp in the pulp chamber and the treatment of the channels of the interested tooth (this therapy is more commonly note as "devitalization"), which consists in the complete abstersion and instrumentation of every channel through specific tools and in its forming with the purpose to make possible its complete closing with a sealing material.
