When a tooth is very damaged from wide caries or fractured by traumas or a great present filling needs to be removed, often it is not possible to reconstruct it with a commune filling anymore.
In these cases the optimal solution both from the aesthetical and functional point of view, is the dental crowns, more' commonly called capsules.
They are built in the laboratory on an imprint of the tooth stump to be covered, prepared slightly reducing it with special tools.
Crowns can be made with several materials.
Crowns in pure ceramics produce the maximum aesthetical result because they make possible the game of lights and shades typical of natural teeth, but at the same time they are also the more' fragile; those instead that have a thin layer of metal between tooth and ceramics give equally a good aesthetical result, but they’re more' resistant in the time.
Of course patients with metals allergy have necessarily to choose crowns built with porcelain, ceramics, gold or in zirconium that don't cause some type of allergy.
